A Sleek and Inviting Addition to Your Living Space

The inspiration for The Bevel came from another piece of furniture that Sara Hayat had designed. The goal was to create a tetris-like sofa where different pieces come together to form a warm and comfortable seating arrangement. After experimenting with different shapes, the decision was made to incorporate beveled edges on each cushion, which became the defining feature of the design.

What sets The Bevel apart from other sofas is its unique construction. The sofa is made up of several cushions linked together and placed on a wooden platform. These cushions are crafted using a combination of special gel foam and high-density foam, along with wooden frames and springs to give them their one-of-a-kind shape. The attention to detail, such as the addition of a belt and legs supporting the platform, adds a touch of uniqueness to the design.

During the design process, Sara Hayat and her team utilized advanced technology to bring their vision to life. They started by sketching several iterations on paper and then created a 3D model of the sofa with the help of an architect. This allowed them to iterate further and make adjustments before finalizing the design. By visualizing the sofa on a computer, they ensured that the desired look and comfort could be achieved. Once the design was finalized, it was sent to fabricators to be brought to life.

The Bevel sofa's dimensions are as follows: W3352.8 x D1016 x H685.8, with cushion size: W558.8 x D558.8 and seat height: H406.4. These specifications were carefully chosen to provide maximum comfort and functionality.

Throughout the design process, extensive research was conducted to ensure the sofa's comfort and functionality. The team experimented with various combinations of foams, including high-density foams, gel foams, and foams infused with gel. They also explored options such as feathered down cushions and silicon layers on top of high-density foams. After numerous experiments, they settled on the most comfortable and functional combination. To maintain the shape of the cushions, rubber lining was added to prevent them from losing their form over time.

Despite facing challenges, such as creating functional beveled edges and seamlessly linking all the cushions together, Sara Hayat and her team overcame these obstacles through their creativity and determination.

The Bevel sofa was completed in November 2021 after months of meticulous design and craftsmanship. It was created in both Denver and Lahore, showcasing the collaboration between international design talents.

Sara Hayat holds the copyrights for The Bevel sofa, ensuring the protection of her intellectual property. This design has also been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2022. This award celebrates outstanding and creatively ingenious designs that contribute to quality of life improvements, making the world a better place.
